03:30 <quazimodo> hi hi
03:30 <sevenseacat> here's trouble.
03:31 <quazimodo> sevenseacat: hi cat, you using elixir nowadays eh+
03:31 <quazimodo> it's been awhile
03:31 <sevenseacat> yep.
03:31 <quazimodo> enjoying?
03:31 <sevenseacat> yep.
03:31 <quazimodo> cooly
03:32 <quazimodo> no more rails for you?
03:32 <sevenseacat> nah, still doing rails for a day job
03:33 <quazimodo> hey, do you know any devs looking for a rails job in sydney?
03:34 <quazimodo> my previous employer is hiring up to 5 seniors, he wants some experienced people
03:34 <sevenseacat> good lord, good luck
03:34 <quazimodo> yeah it's not easy, many of the staff were trained there
03:35 <quazimodo> anyway if you know people looking for a change, his team is very chill, really nice company culture tbh
03:37 <quazimodo> anyway I was curious, does elixir support file specific constants?
03:37 <quazimodo> i was asking in #ruby because i wasnt' sure if we had them in ruby, was curious if elixir did this
03:38 <sevenseacat> given elixir is immutable, everything is constant :P
03:38 segmond joined
03:39 <quazimodo> lol you know what i mean, like I can't go about doing a file specific NewModelOnlyUsedHere
03:39 <quazimodo> i guess elixir is gonna scope things by module then

03:58 <Radar> quazimodo: "File specific constants" seems like the wrong kinda question.
03:58 <Radar> quazimodo: It would be better to express what you're trying to do with some Elixir code.
04:02 <quazimodo> Hi Radar, hope you've been weel
04:02 <quazimodo> *well
04:03 <Radar> Indeed I have :) I've been mentoring a junior at CA. I've been teaching her Elixir.
04:03 <quazimodo> Great to hear :)

04:05 <quazimodo> Actually was looking to see if elixir does module aliases, but i phrased it poorly. I've read more documentation and see that it does, though it doesn't seem to look at file exports but rather globally namespaced modules. I wanted to understand the module/import system that's all
04:05 boid joined
04:06 <quazimodo> lexically scoped aliases is a nice touch
04:07 <Radar> Did you know you could also do alias Quazimodo.{Module1, Module2} instead of alias Quazimodo.Module1 + alias Quazimodo.Module2?
04:08 <quazimodo> yeah it's pretty nice
04:08 <quazimodo> i saw multi alias at the bottom of the docs, these little conveniences help devs

04:13 <quazimodo> @rad how do you feel about speed of development in elixir and possibly phoenix, if you use it that is
04:14 <quazimodo> I'm only slowly starting to write anything
04:14 <quazimodo> wanted to about a year and half ago but then started a company and my time went from limited to zero
04:15 <Radar> quazimodo: I've been using it for almost a year in production now
04:15 <Radar> I feel as productive in it as I do in Ruby.
04:15 <quazimodo> that's very nice to hears
04:16 <quazimodo> wow i'm really fat fingering it today

05:00 <Radar> There have been some things we've struggled with, mostly around correct supervisor setups

08:39 <linduxed> while i know this is a docker-related question, it's one that i think you guys might have ran into: i'm trying to build an application based on the "elixir:1.4" image from docker hub, but it keeps exiting with the following output:
08:39 <linduxed> web_1 | Eshell V8.3.3 (abort with ^G)
08:39 <linduxed> web_1 | *** Terminating erlang (nonode@nohost)
08:40 <linduxed> my guess is that it's related to the fact that the underlying image "erlang:19" has a layer that says "CMD ["erl"]"
08:40 <linduxed> which fails, for whatever reason
08:43 <linduxed> i seem to be experiencing something similar to this https://github.com/bitwalker/distillery/issues/48
08:44 <josevalim> it doesn't print anything beyond that?
