16:37 <kuchenrolle> hi
16:37 <kuchenrolle> i have an sql database with a table with three columns "doc_id term_id score" (int, int, float). i need to be able to search it by doc_id and by term_id, but not relate it to any other tables. it's fairly slow. is this something that mongodb would be good for?
16:52 <kuchenrolle> mrow, nobody there :|
16:56 <Derick> it's a beautiful saturday afternoon...
16:56 <Derick> when you say "fairly slow" - do you have an index?
16:57 <kuchenrolle> Derick: well, it's not afternoon everywhere. (;
16:58 <kuchenrolle> Derick: also, yes. i have an index. inserts are really fast and deletes are as well, but updates are incredibly slow, such that it would take 10 days to insert the 5.5 million documents that i want to insert.
16:58 <kuchenrolle> Derick: both term_id and doc_id are indexed
17:00 <kuchenrolle> Derick: what i'm doing: i'm running through a collection of documents and store the frequencies of terms in the documents. afterwards i turn the frequencies into something else (tf-idfs), which i can only do once i've processed all documents. and then i need to query by term_id and doc_id
17:01 <kali> for updates, a composite index (with the two ids) may help (or not, you actually need to try it)
17:01 <kali> for read, having a covering index may help
17:02 <kuchenrolle> composite index sounds good, i'll try that. what's a covering index?
17:02 <kali> but to be honest, it is likely innodb will be more efficient than mongodb storage on this kind of very compact data
17:03 <kali> kuchenrolle: https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/core/query-optimization/#covered-query
17:05 <kuchenrolle> ok, i'll try those things and look into innodb. thank you.

17:21 <patientplatypus> hi
17:21 <patientplatypus> does anyone have dead simple documentation on connecting to multiple databases with mongodb?
17:22 <Derick> which driver/language?
17:25 <patientplatypus> its a node/express application using javascript
17:25 <patientplatypus> im looking at something like this http://blog.blairvanderhoof.com/post/37309147906/why-arent-my-models-returning-from-their-queries
17:26 <patientplatypus> more documentation would help though
17:28 <Derick> you just need these twice:
17:28 <Derick> db = mongoose.createConnection('mongodb://localhost/app');
17:28 <Derick> the "app" is the database name
17:29 <Derick> but mongoose is not something we know much about here

17:42 <kuchenrolle> kali: do i get this right: innodb allows to write concurrently to a database, so i could make the updates in parallel?
