04:36 <alwayslearning> i'm sure you guys have all heard of the commentary regarding AGPL licensing etc, there is this one particular blog post where this guy goes into it: http://sagemath.blogspot.com/2016/10/rethinkdb-must-relicense-now-what-is.html
04:36 <alwayslearning> however one interesting thing to note that begged me to investigate it, is that the guy is on about PostGre being faster than rethinkdb
04:37 <alwayslearning> is this really true for realtime use cases / applications? I thought the streaming connection / subscription to changes is what made Rethink blow mysql/postgre out of the water in terms of query performance, lookups

05:16 <streaky> all depends on your definition of faster i suppose
05:16 <streaky> fwiw rethinkdb was relicensed
05:17 <streaky> also! not everything is about performance tbh else we'd all just use one system and everybody else could go home

07:35 <Kamilion> alwayslearning: Well, if you really really want to spend your time crunking around in postgresql stored procedures, triggers, views, and trying to make it all work with JSONB, and then having to struggle with slonyxl for multimaster replication, or settling for WAL propigation ... I mean, if you really wanna hire a database engineer, nobody's gonna stop you, but why bother when there's rethinkdb?
07:35 <alwayslearning> feel like i've come to the same conclusion, need them changefeeds bruh
07:35 <Kamilion> darn tootin'
07:36 <Kamilion> though you CAN do that in postgres with some elbowgrease
07:36 <Kamilion> it's just... not nearly as neat and clean
07:36 <Kamilion> especally with respect to getting a real HA setup together in a flash
07:36 <Kamilion> which is really where rethink shines for me
